I have sent my settlers to the position allocated by leadership. However, it looks like that area is being settled fairly heavily now....

yes, my position is also heavily settled, but my village will have lots of income from my original village and will grow much faster than them.

So is mine (6.66 hours for merchants), but still, with a steady flow of merchants, that will still be quite an income stream.

Plan several town upgrades ahead and over-send resources just make sure your warehouse and granary are adequate...
