Today's Lesson
I am posting my MM's of Today's Lesson for you guys to have in one place, and for those who missed them.
First lesson sent 1/29/09
Today's lesson:
Catapults.
I know most of you don't have these glorious instruments of war yet, but, now is as good a time as any to explain to you how to use them.
There are a couple of rules of thumb about them.
1. Always send multiple catapults in a wave. I try to send at least 20, but 10 will do.
2. Never send them unescorted, because sniping does occur. I usually send 50-100 troops with them.
3. Always send fake catapult attacks ahead of your main clearing wave. This prevents sniping of your catapults. More about sniping in another lesson.
4. Multiple waves of catapults are best. If I am sending 5 catapult waves and 1 clear attack, this is what I do.
a. Open 8-10 tabs on your browser.
b. Set up your fake attacks in the first 2-4 tabs.
c. Set up your clearing attack with 1 catapult and enough rams.
d. set up your catapult attacks with escorts
e. Go back to the beginning tab. Click go, and control tab to move to next window, click go and repeat until all attacks are sent. I have gotten off 10 attacks landing within 1 sec. using this method. This also helps to prevent sniping.
f. Check to make sure that your attacks are landing in the right order. If not, repeat all steps.
Thus ends today's lesson.

Today's Lesson:
Troop Counts
It is suggested at this point that Gauls and Romans have half of their population in troop count and Teutons have at least their population in troop count.
This is my method of doing that. I am not saying it is right, but when I focus on troop count this is what I do.
1. I wake up.
2. I kiss my wife and kid good morning.
3. I log into Travian.
4. I make an upgrade to 1 resource field
5. With the leftovers I make as many troops as I can.
6. I send raids with my current troops.
7. I wait until about lunch and make more troops.
8. I send raids
9. I wait until dinner and make more troops.
10. I send raids.
11. I wait till bedtime and make more troops.
12. I send raids.
Repeat process until you have the troop counts that you want, then sim away until you need more!
Thus ends the lesson for today. Remember to have FUN!

Today's Lesson
Dodging attacks
Let's say you log on and you have an attack incoming in less than 5 minutes.
This of course does not give you a chance to call for defense. You have a couple of choices in this situation.
1. DO NOT PANIC. Keeping a clear head here is key.
2. Decide whether you want to defend or dodge. If you think that the force will kill your force then you will need to dodge.
3. To do this, wait until there is less than a minute left before the attack hits.
4. Pick a target and send your force out.
5. Wait 30 seconds and press the red X to bring them back. You can wait longer if you want to. You have 1:30 to cancel the attack.
6. Congratulations, you have saved your army, but your resources have probably been raped, so use as much of them as you can before the attack occurs.
Thus ends today's lesson.

4th Lesson-February 5, 2009
Today's Lesson:
Settling IN the Stronghold
As most of you know by now, we are using a stronghold strategy marching toward endgame. What this means is you must settle in the stronghold, if you are not already there. What this also means is, you will not receive reinforcement to villages outside of the stronghold unless it is your only village. You will have to protect that village yourself. If you do not follow these steps you will be booted, farmed, and or destroyed.
Steps to take:
1. Find a cropper or other suitable location for your new settlement IN the stronghold.
2. Log the location of the cropper in the land reservation category of the forum.
3. Wait until your land reservation is confirmed before you send your setters.
Thus ends today's lesson.

Fifth Lesson-February 10, 2009
This is today's lesson: Advice.
I kind of stole this from someone else, but it is the best advice I have ever been given or seen.
Rule # 1. Get it Done.
Rule # 2. Get it Done Right!
Rule # 3. Get it Done Now!!
Rule # 4. Get it Done Right Now!!!
These are the Four basic Rules that Allowed me to Succeed. I apply them by picking a goal and making it happen. That does include figuring out what I need to do to accomplish my Goal. Finding out How to go about doing those things Required to Achieve my Goal. And Finally what order of events will best server the purpose of Achieving my Goal. Don't Forget that most of the other players Here have Experienced Most of the same stages of development you are going through, now at some point in time. So asking an experienced player for advice is an intrinsic part of this process.
I have a few other tidbits of advice.
1. Read the forum there is tons of information to be had there.
2. Be active and post on your forum boards often. (don't spam)
3. Remember you are not alone, this is a TEAM don't suffer in silence we can't help you if we don't know your having problems.
4. Have fun, if you forget the Fun this ceases to be a game.
5. Help others when you can.
6. Challenge your Leaders to Find more for you to do.
7. Ask questions of your fellow players.
8. Be Flexible there are many ways to achieve any goal.
9. Have patience, your Team is here to help but, everything takes time.
10. Have your troops drink Camels Milk.
Thus end's today's lesson.

Sixth Lesson--February 22, 2009
Sniping
This is more of an art than a science.
First let's start with a definition.
Sniping-(Travian Definition) To by pass an attackers main clearing attack, and kill the catapult waves that follow.
Step 1-You must be at your computer when the first attacks land.
Step 2-Just before the first attack lands, send your men to a target. IMMEDIATELY bring them back by pressing the red X on your rally point screen. This will set you up for sniping the catapults behind the clear wave.
Sounds easy right? Wrong!
This gets tricky when multiple attacks land in the same second. That is a good way to ensure that some of your catapults will get through if you are the attacker. Another good tactic, if you are the attacker, is to send fake attacks before your main clear. That way if your target tries to snipe, he will run right into your clearing attack.
Thus ends today's lesson

Yee's First Lesson-February 10, 2009
Spend Down:
Attack Coming Your Way!!! Oh Noes!!!
Ok, calm down you know how to dodge it was a previous lesson.
"But what will happen to the resources I've been saving"
-This words came for Rowsey himself (Good thing I was there to help the poor guy)
This are your options:
1. It's Christmas: Level up like crazy, fields, buildings and buy yourself some troops to! (make sure you build troops about 1 minute before the attack lands)
2. Defensive player: Armory is a must for you, upgrade the building or upgrade the armor (both at the same time is possible)
3. Offensive player: You got a blacksmith, upgrade it or get better weapons for your troops. (You will need these upgrades later on the game anyways)
4. Trade: There's ALWAYS a friend who will trade exactly what you send him in order to save your precious resources from the enemy. (Risk: player may not have merchants and he could overflow, losing some of your rez.)
Hope it helps!
P.S. If you want to sleep peacefully send your troops on a raid to a nice far low pop player. (romans are the best places to send)
