Alliance Goals

Post  BGS on Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:03 pm

As suggested by Rowsey in another thread, perhaps we ought to post a list of measurable goals for the alliance as a whole. Here are some suggestions for weekly goals. Feel free to modify and repost. Remember, good goals are SMART:
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Realistic
T = Timely

Activity
• No player going yellow this week. Any player who goes yellow without warning leadership is dealt with (either kicked or given a warning, depending on the leadership policy of that wing).
• 90% of players registering for troop counter (100% by next week).
• One MM giving a useful tip sent out to each wing. These could be tailored to the level of development of each wing. They don't need to be long, but they help make the alliance feel they are being trained and help newer players avoid making silly mistakes. If the leaders are too busy to write one each week, then delegate to other experienced players. Having to articulate why you do something in a certain way is a good way of honing your skills.
• To get 90% of members signed up to this forum by this time next week.

Economic
• Twenty new villages this week. I had picked this number somewhat at random, but it is roughly how many new villages we settled over this last week.
• Total population of 135K (currently a little short of 126K). Population is a rough measure and there are pointless ways of raising population, but it is still not irrelevant to get a sense of overall development. This can't be the only goal, but it can give us a sense of how we're going.

Military
• No player getting successfully raided this week (a "successful" raid is one where the attacker loses fewer troops than the defender and takes away resources).
• No player getting successfully attacked (where all defender troops are killed)
• Total troop crop count of X (or up by X% if we don't want to even mention total numbers). This one is reliant upon the troop counter being used effectively.
• No hostile (i.e. non-FUN, non-NAP) player within 40 fields of -90|210 to own a 9c or 15c
• No hostile (i.e. non-FUN, non-NAP) player within 40 fields of -90|210 to have more than 20 units
• No hostile (i.e. non-FUN, non-NAP) player within 40 fields of -90|210 to have a residence or palace above level 7

These were some ideas off the top of my head. Thoughts? Further suggestions?

Man, we done this ages ago... Even before Cursez came to Flank.
And you know that I think that you can't make the same goals for everyone, or similar parametres for everyone. It just needs to be done for each member.
How many times did I say: 2 leaders can't babysit the entire alliance of 120 people...

It's not babysitting. It is trying to give everyone a sense of common achievement and purpose, to see that their little bit is contributing to something much larger, to give them direction on what are the important priorities at the moment.

Of course the overall goals will be a little less specific than those of each wing, but it is a way of trying to help the wings feel like we have a common project and vision.

Goals are being set in each wing. When I was out, I saw a list as to what FUN main members needed to have. I know that FUN Lite also has their goals being sent out. I'm on the forum of another alliance and their current goal is to have all their members up to 4 villages within the week for those who have been with them from the start. Penalty is being kicked, then farmed. It's extreme, but a top line alliance needs to. I've got slackers in Main, and pretty soon, we may have to kick them. I believe in fair warning so they'll receive a constructive message from me soon.

I believe that we can set some general goals for all of FUN. One that is simple is that each member shall be required to produce at least 1 village a month. If I sim, I can hit that requirement. Another is for all members to join the SH. Currently, we (all 3 wings) have members not participating (although our forum states joining the SH is optional).

I think that is a good idea. Give them clear guidelines on what they need to do to stay involved.

Do you mean that our forum states that it is *not* optional? Or does it really say that it is optional? Where?

What do you think of my other suggested goals?

My original post has been deleted. "Optional" is no longer used in the description of the Stronghold. I agree with your other suggested goals. There should be some general goals assigned to all members straight across the board, and them some goals for specific members. I can't expect everybody to react the same towards a specific goal.

A general goal would be to have 1 village settled per month. Everybody should be able to hit this goal. A specific goal might be to have a member who is very good at communicating go out and recruit 3-4 new members into our organization. It all depends on all leadership input. What would be good is to come up with a set of realistic goals and post it in the announcements for our members to see.

Any other comments on these goals? Rowsey said in the other thread he thought having fortnightly or monthly goals would be better than weekly, and I agree.

I also agree with the idea of having a new goal every two weeks or so; that was my original plan for the FUN Main folks.

I also like the idea of having some alliance-wide goals, such as settling at least one new village a month, as well as some wing specific goals that could be more tailored towards the players in each wing. I agree with Kait about posting them in the forum as well - perhaps we make a new thread that only leadership can post to that keeps a running list of all the goals, as well as perhaps those that have and have not met them.
