Do not allow your starting village to become a farm. At the very least, cranny up.

so turns out just im reining, if we arent organising a a defensive OP my troops will be wiped, 500 wheat vs 6k doesnt last long

KJ - defence needs to be co-ordinated. Pull your troops. No point throwing them away on a player who is not even going to try to defend his village.

Zewan: It is true that some/many/most of us will lose our starting villages and it ought not to be the end of the world when this happens, but we also should not give them up without a fight. Please at least build crannies and use your merchants to send resources away. Any excess resources should be spent on troops, which should dodge the attacks until you have more (send them away on a raid if you are going to be away/asleep). If he sends catas, then that at least means we have got his attention. If he sends in his friends, then that is even better, because we will learn the size of their armies.
